Donald Dempsey & Kathleen McManamon win Captain’s Plate

Winners Kathleen McManamon & Donald Dempsey flanked by Captains Patrick Macklin and Dee Garvin.

It was a busy weekend with the Nine and Dine on Friday and on Sunday the Captain´s Plate. For the Ladies it felt more like a Tuesday than a Sunday, starting on South 1 in the morning with glorious sunshine with peace and calm, the only noise being birdsong. There were some great scores today and well done to all the ladies that participated. Winner of the Captain’s Plate with a great score of 39 points was Kathleen McManamon. Runner up was Val Harrison just one shot behind on 38 Points, and third was Slaney Mullen losing on count-back also with 38 points. Slaney won a brace of bottles of wine – one for best gross score today with a  gross 25 points and one for the nearest the pin prize.

The Captain’s Plate for both Men took place today. Starting on the 10th hole, we had 31 in the men’s competition playing QDL South in ‘three ball’ flights.  Once again, we enjoyed perfect golfing conditions.  The pace of play was excellent aided by the fact that we were first out on the course and each of the three ball flights closed any gap that opened between them and the flight immediately in front of them. Most three ball flights finished the round in four hours. Well done to all in that regard. Winner of the Captain Plate with 45 points was Donald Dempsey.  Donald also won the best gross prize with a total of 27 points. Second prize winner with 41 points was Davis Hess. Third prize winner with 38 points was David Allsop. Nearest the Pin’ went to Patrick Macklin.

First Nine and Dine of the Season

Peter & Kim Shawyer with Gillian & Malcolm Wyman

The first of the season’s wonderful Nine and Dine evenings took place on Friday evening.  We played QDL South, holes 10 to 18. The scoring format required a team of four players to return 20 scores over the 9 holes.  The prospect of a good fish and chip supper on the clubhouse terrace following play encouraged us all. The weather and temperature were great for golf, but the mosquitoes were out to cause annoyance on an otherwise perfect late afternoon and evening. The winners with 48 points, 33 points on the last six, was the team of Kim Sawyer, Peter Sawyer, Gill Wyman and Malcolm Wyman. Second with 48 points , 29 points on the last six, was the team of Denise Grayson, David Allsop, Elizabeth Crichton and Russell Crichton. Ladies ‘nearest the pin’ was won by Philippa Clancey.  Men’s’ nearest the pin’ was won by Patrick Macklin.

85 points wins Men’s AMAM

Super temperatures in great sunshine greeted our members on Wednesday. The pin position on Hole 4 came in for much post game criticism. Winners with 85 points were Nick Phillips, Michael Hickey, Gerard Campbell and Graeme Tilmouth. Runners up with 84 points Gerry McNamara, Byron Clancey, Terry Williams and Patrick Macklin. Third place with 83 points were Vincent Ford, Brian Parker, Rod Sumner and Peter Johnston. It was a good golfing day.  Congratulations to the winners.
